Emerging markets are dominating mobile browsing due to lower cost of entry for technology firms despite a previous lack of internet penetration. Companies like Micromax and Huawei are finally able to provide affordable smartphones to emerging markets.
Mobile Internet penetration has doubled since 2011, from 18 to 36 per cent.
With apps on smartphones costing money and bandwidth, emerging market consumers turn to mobile browsers to surf the internet. Several browsers are now offering expanded features such as data compression to entice new users.
UC Browser, one of such browsers, allows users to access videos, music, and news through their mobile browser.
