Emerging markets are increasingly enticing renewable energy projects such as solar developers. Countries like Mexico, China, and India were the major markets for renewable energy in 2015.
The average size of solar projects in emerging markets in South America and Africa are 64 MW and 45 MW, while in North America and Europe were 11 MW and 3 MW, respectively.
The rates of return for emerging markets are better as well. The average rate of return in Africa is 10.3 per cent, in the Middle East 10.4 per cent, and in Asia 8.4 per cent. Meanwhile, returns in North America were 6.4 per cent and in Europe 4 per cent.
